I believe that the post of porn in the comic discussion should have further risen our knowledge of the bot & spammer problem.

Perhaps a Captcha would help?
Otherwise all we can do is monitor the member list.
Would more moderators help?

I've been trying to get Pete to let me just delete all of the accounts that are clearly spammers, but he insists that we send them polite PMs and give them notice and time to respond. Hopefully this porn link will change his mind, though. I warned him about it, and he didn't listen, and this is what happened.

We had another one today. I IP banned the user.

I think a user cull would be a good idea. Maybe make it a standard that someone has to post within 5 days of creating an account or the account will be deleted?

And a captcha is a definite yes, I'd be very surprised if we didn't have one already.

That was actually the second spam thread.

I propose that, whenever such a thread should appear, the first person to see it should create a thread with a warning in the title and the name of the spam thread, such as "Don't go into 'superhentaibusters.' Is pronz." The warning thread should be in the same forum as the spam thread, so that anyone going into that forum will notice it. You should also hit the "report" button in the spam thread.

The forum rules are changing. Newcomers need to post within 5 days of joining, or their account will be marked for deletion. It's unfortunate, but it's a good way to recognize spambots early.

We'll up that time to 3 days if we still have trouble.

I help out on a friends forum. She had huge problems with spammers. She made it so every account had to be approved by her (then eventually I could approve it either, because it got out of hand) but even that got out of control. She had to approve too many people etc. I think in the end she pretty much banned all of russia lol.
